BG Bau drone funding
As part of its occupational safety bonus program, the BG Bau (German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Construction Industry) will offer drone subsidies starting July 1, 2026, as well as financial support for obtaining a drone pilot's license and registering with the LBA (German Federal Aviation Office). What is being funded?
The new funding covers drones, the drone license (A2) and registration with the Federal Aviation Office (LBA).
Drones
The drone subsidy applies to the purchase of a new drone for commercial use and covers common models in classes C1 and C2. It is important to note that registered pilots must possess a valid drone pilot's license (class A2) and valid drone liability insurance when applying. Drones of the aforementioned classes already purchased are also eligible for the subsidy, provided the purchase date is on or after January 1, 2026.
Drone license (Class A2)
The costs for obtaining an A2 drone pilot's license for the first time, as well as the renewal of existing A2 licenses, can also be financially covered by BG Bau funding. Several conditions apply here as well. Funding can only be granted if the company uses a drone that is also eligible for funding and the license issue date is on or after January 1, 2026. Funding for the A1/A3 license is not available.
Registration with the Federal Aviation Office (LBA)
Fees incurred for operator registration with the LBA for the commercial use of drones with a maximum take-off mass of more than 250 grams can also be covered as part of the funding.
How much funding is available?
The grant covers up to 50% of the total net costs, with a maximum grant amount of €2,000.
Example calculations:
- Acquisition costs for an A2 license for 3 employees: 3 x €99 = €297.00, of which 50% is eligible for funding: €148.50.
- Acquisition costs for drone (Matrice 4E): €4,523, of which €2,000 is eligible for funding = €2,523 remaining costs
Contribution-based funding vs. contribution-independent funding
As a member of BG Bau, you have the option of applying for drone funding either as contribution-dependent or contribution-independent funding.

The approved funding amount is independent of the amount of membership fees paid; however, additional requirements must be met. These include, for example, a prior consultation with an employee of the BG Bau (German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Construction Industry) and a risk assessment in cases of fall hazards.

For each defined area, flight routes with preset parameters can be created fully automatically and optimized – for example, for regular construction progress documentation or simple property monitoring. A single click is all it takes to load the route onto the drone remote control. Even hilly or mountainous terrain with elevation changes poses no problem thanks to the route creation capability of DGM1.
